FAQ's
Below are a list of questions people usually have about therapy.
Psychotherapy typically involves longer-term treatment aimed at exploring deep-rooted issues and making significant behavioural changes. Counselling, on the other hand, is usually shorter-term and focuses on specific problems or transitions, offering guidance and practical solutions. Psychotherapy and counselling work by providing a safe and confidential space for individuals to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Through various therapeutic techniques, clients gain insight into themselves, develop coping strategies, and make positive changes in their lives.
The main goals include improving mental health and emotional well-being, increasing self-awareness, enhancing coping skills, resolving conflicts, improving relationships, and promoting personal growth and development.
The duration varies depending on each client’s needs and the nature of the issues being addressed. It can range from a few sessions to several months or years for more complex issues.
Sessions are typically scheduled weekly, but this can vary based on the clients needs and the therapist’s recommendation. Each session lasts 50 minutes.
During sessions, clients can expect to discuss their thoughts, feelings and experiences in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. Therapists may use various techniques such as talk therapy, cognitive-behavioral techniques, or creative therapies to help clients achieve their goals.
This may seem like an obvious question, but it’s an important one. It’s also a question most therapists will ask you in one form or another. It’s also OK if you’re not quite sure but having a general idea will help. Maybe you want to go to therapy for a specific reason, like a fear of flying. Maybe you’ve been struggling with low self-esteem, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues or suicidal ideation. Maybe it’s more general, like you’re just feeling like you have a heavy cloud of sadness hanging over you and you need to talk to someone outside your circle.
I am fully licensed, insured and Garda vetted. You can ask for recommendations from trusted sources, use online directories, or seek referrals from your doctor or insurance provider. There are various approaches to psychotherapy and counselling, including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, humanistic therapy, among others. Each approach has its own techniques and focuses.
Many health insurance plans offer cover or partial cover for counselling & psychotherapy services. However, cover varies depending on your health insurance provider & plan. Check with your health insurance provider for clarity on this.
For individual therapy the fee is €70, per session; Online/telephone counselling and Walk and Talk therapy is priced at €65 per session. Payment is made at the end of each session. Cash, Revolut or Bank Transfer is required. Receipts are provided upon request.
If you need to cancel your appointment due to illness or emergency, I would look for as much notice as possible. In all other cases, a minimum of 24 hours’ notice period for cancellation of an appointment is required. This helps me schedule my work as best as possible for me and all my clients. Frequent cancellations indicate that something is not working and will necessitate re-negotiating the terms of our contract. Failure to attend two sessions in a row without notifying me will be considered as disengagement from the service and could jeopardise your place.
It depends on what brings you to therapy and what may arise during it. What is it you want to
work on? How is it impacting on you? What level of understanding do you have of yourself or
the issue at hand? Short-term therapy is often appropriate for a specific problem (perhaps
one that has recently arisen), to help reclaim control in your life and usually entails 6-12
sessions to be truly effective. Long-term/open-ended therapy is often appropriate for
difficult, historical, and on-going issues to facilitate a deeper exploration and awareness of
the problems, possible solutions, understandings and/or acceptance. I “check-in” with
clients after a few sessions to see how we are getting on and how the therapy is working.

altered or not.
